The San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance presents Dance-IT Dance and Information Technology
Public Hours: Thursday, November 13 and Friday, November 14 from 4pm to 6pm Ticket Holders: On performance days the doors will open a half-hour before the preview talk.
The Center, in partnership with the University of California Irvine, adds an exciting interactive, state-of-the-art dimension to the San Francisco Ballet’s 75th Anniversary visit to Segerstrom Hall November 11 – 16. Visitors and patrons can actually dance like stars utilizing Dance-IT, an innovative, telematic combination of dance and technology created by Charles McNeal, director of education, at the San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance Education in conjunction with John Crawford, associate professor of dance and media arts at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. The installation will be located in the lobby of Segerstrom Hall. People of all ages will learn about – and practice first-hand – dance forms from around the world, including Afro-Cuban, Japanese, Modern, Ballet, Kathak, Tahitian, Hip Hop, Mexican Folkloric and West African. Through digital media contact, participants view step-by-step dance instructions on the screen, emulate the movements and then watch their performance played back. The Dance-IT experience is free and open to the public on Thursday, November 13th and Friday, November 14th from 4-6pm. Ticket holders can experience the booth beginning 90 min before each performance.
