OFF CENTER BASH BRINGS IT HOME
by Orange County Performing Arts Center  | March 27, 2010

Off Center Bash Co-Chairs Linda Young and Cindi Morales with husbands Burton Young and Norm Morales, Center President Terry Dwyer and the cast of RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles

The Orange County Performing Arts Center’s inaugural Off Center Bash celebrated the Center family by bringing them home to a party in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and in Segerstrom Hall with a performance of Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles. Appropriately, this kick-off party was called “Come Together.”

Halston, Calvin Klein, Liza and Woodstock veterans would have raved. The VIP pre-performance reception in the lobby of the concert hall included cushy lounge seating, décor that recreated classic Beatles album covers and Andy Warhol-inspired graphics and videos. DJ Lee, sax player Kyle Wolverton and go-go dancers enticed guests to the dance floor while interactive video games encouraged a competitive edge to the happening. The raffle offered tantalizing items, including 12 tickets to the April 10 Angels vs. Oakland baseball game donated by Emulex, a Napa weekend getaway package courtesy of Trinitas Winery as well as a number of items from generous South Coast Plaza boutiques.

In the culinary department, top honors went to Trinitas Winery, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Johnny Rockets and Patina’s musical riffs, such as “Curry That Weight” (vegetarian fried rice served in Chinese takeout box), “Come Tomato” (tomato soup served in a shot glass with grilled cheese sandwich) and “I Wanna Hold Your Ham” (BBQ pulled pork sandwich with sweet and smoky BBQ sauce).

Center President Terry Dwyer thanked guests and underwriters as well as Bash Co-Chairs Cindi Morales and Linda Young and their committee. Also saluted was media sponsor Coast magazine, which held a music video contest. (Winner Eric Rodriguez was on hand with his family.) The Bash helped to raise awareness and funds for the Center’s Off Center and Free for All Series (Next up for that? Watch for the announcement of the Center’s popular al fresco Movie Mondays Series that returns this July.)

Lindsay Gareth and Barbara Townsend

Following Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles, guests returned to the concert hall with other party folks who opted for just the post-performance festivities. The lobby was splashed with psychedelic colors and glowing ‘60s inspired projections – and the party rocked on!

Also on the scene were Kristina and Larry Dodge, Glenn Stearns, Deborah and Larry Bridges, Pamela and Tim Kashani, Mary and Peter Tennyson, Sally and Randy Crockett with their son and daughter-in-law Jason and Nicole Early, Lauren Townsend and her sister Lindsay Gareth and John and Jennifer Condas.
